PRODUCTION DETAILS

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for Annie.

The show will be co-produced by Threshold Theatre Company and Echo Youth Theatre and will be performed by an adult & child cast from across Norfolk.

To be performed at

The Playhouse, Norwich

29th May – 1st June 2025

Echo Youth Theatre is looking for 12 young female performers, aged 9 and over with a “playing age of 6-13” to audition for this show for the roles of Annie and the orphans.

This means that auditionees for the child roles must look 13 or under, but must be aged 9 or over as at 19 Jan 25.

Threshold Theatre Company is looking for 18 adults to audition for the adult roles in the show.

Casting guidelines in the Audition Information Pack give “playing ages” and there are adult roles for all ages in this show.  The minimum age for adult cast is 16, but if you are 16 and applying to audition you must have completed Year 11.  We cannot accept applications from those still in Year 11 as at 19th Feb 24.

Show Week will be Mon 26th May to Sun 1st June 25 and cast will need to be fully available for that period.

There is one mid-week matinee on Thu 29th May.

REHEARSAL DETAILS

Rehearsing at St Edmunds Church, Fishergate, Norwich, NR3 1SE

Rehearsals will start Sun 19th Jan 25.

Rehearsals will be mainly on  Sundays and Monday and Wednesday evenings during Jan, Feb and Mar.  From Apr, rehearsals will be Wednesday evenings and Sunday.  There are two Saturdays in May that are scheduled for rehearsals.

Please make sure you have checked the draft schedule, which is available in the Audition Information Pack on the link below.

This is a draft schedule and a confirmed schedule will be provided following casting.  Not all cast will be required at all rehearsals, but we will be expecting good availability for all rehearsals, if required.

During the audition process, you will be asked to let us know of any planned absences – please let us know your commitments, so we can ensure you are going to be available if required.

We will accommodate absences that we know about in advance.  Auditionees with excessive absences or who are unavailable for key dates may not be cast, but please book an audition if you are keen and discuss any issues you have with us.

Please be honest about any prior commitments.  Frequent, undeclared absences could result in being removed from the show during the rehearsal process.  If your planned absences have been agreed upon by the team in advance and you are cast in the show, your absence will not be an issue.

AUDITIONS FOR ANNIE & THE ORPHANS

For those auditioning for the children’s roles in the show, the audition process is as follows:

INFORMATION EVENING AND SING-THROUGH
Wed 4 Dec 24:
6.30pm – 8pm

The Information Evening is not mandatory, but it is an opportunity to meet the Creative Team and hear about plans for the show and also to sing through the audition pieces as a group.  parents are encouraged to attend with their child.

AUDITIONS

Sun 5th Jan 25:
2 sessions: 9.30am – 12.30pm & 1.30pm – 4.30pm
Mon 6th Jan 25:
1 session: 6pm – 9pm

There will be three audition sessions – auditionees only need to attend one of them.  Each session will be a 3-hr workshop audition.

All audition material can be found in the Audition Information Pack, by character, along with the role/character/scene breakdown of the cast.

During the workshop they will be taught a piece of choreography and auditionees will be required to sing and dance the routine as a group once they have been taught it.  If auditionees can tap dance they should bring their tap shoes with them – however, it is not essential to be able to tap (other than for the role of Annie).  Auditionees should ensure they have learnt the words to the song marked “Song & Dance Audition” in the Audition Information Pack.

There will also be a solo singing audition, which will be performed in front of the group, during the workshop.  The music for the solo singing audition is in the Audition Information Folder and a track accompaniment to practise with will also be available before mid-Dec.

Finally, auditionees will also do some script work in groups using the auditions scripts.  The children should ensure they have read and understood these scripts in advance of the audition.

For these roles we are looking for strong singers and dancers, who can perform with character, so the children should prepare well and where possible learn the audition pieces, so they are able to perform with character during the audition.
