Roald Dahl's book The Witches comes to life in this imaginative play adapted for stage by David Wood. Using an immersive style, imaginative physical theatre, puppetry and illusion, Echo Youth Theatre’s production will be performed on a thrust stage in the Assembly House Ballroom for 4 performances 23-26 October 2019.

Full details of the production and audition requirements are in the Audition Pack (download here) – auditions will be held on Wed 19th and Sat 22nd June – auditionees will need to attend both sessions:
• 6.30pm - 8.30pm Wed 19th Jun – Information Briefing and Audition Workshops
• One hour on Sat 22nd Jun – Individual Auditions and Character Workshop (time dependent on which character you are auditioning for – see Audition Pack for details)

The Witches is a highly physical and challenging production that will require multi-talented actors. We will be using puppets, physical theatre, and slapstick comedy alongside a multi-functional set of screens to use shadows, lighting and optical illusions to create the magic of the show. The ensemble of the show is the key to this production. They will need to be strong physical performers and will remain on stage for the whole production.

The casting will be non-gender specific, unless specified in the character notes. The “Boy” and Bruno can be played by either boys or girls. All witches will be wearing bald caps with wigs and make-up, so it doesn’t matter what gender you are as long as you are excited by the part and prepared to dress for it. It is important, however, that there is a physical distinction between the actors playing witches and the actors playing children. Because of this we would like small children to play the roles of the Boy, Bruno and the Frog and for the witches to be tall. The ensemble, Grandma and other character parts can be in-between this range. Full Character Notes are available here:
