The Witches is a highly physical and challenging production that will require multi-talented actors. We will be using puppets, physical theatre, and slapstick comedy alongside a multi-functional set of screens to use shadows, lighting and optical illusions to create the magic of the show. The ensemble of the show is the key to this production. They will need to be strong physical performers and will remain on stage for the whole production.
The casting will be non-gender specific, unless specified in the character notes. The “Boy” and Bruno can be played by either boys or girls. All witches will be wearing bald caps with wigs and make-up, so it doesn’t matter what gender you are as long as you are excited by the part and prepared to dress for it. It is important, however, that there is a physical distinction between the actors playing witches and the actors playing children. Because of this we would like small children to play the roles of the Boy, Bruno and the Frog and for the witches to be tall. The ensemble, Grandma and other character parts can be in-between this range. Full Character Notes are available here:
