To conclude our year of weekly workshops, we staged 3 short plays at the Garage in Norwich in Nov 23.
“I was surpised by how gritty and hard-hitting the play was – the cast did an amazing job and brought me to tears” Audience Member
“Made me so glad that I am not a teenager today!” Audience Member
Girls Like That by Evan Placey is an explosive and emotive play which explores the pressures on young people today in the wake of technology and social media. Our version was directed by Nina Green.
When a naked photograph of Scarlett goes viral, she becomes the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons. But while rumours run wild and everyone forms an opinion, Scarlett stays silent. Meanwhile the play explores the insecurities of those who have a lot to say. The play is funny but it is also gritty with a serious message which is relevant to today.
“The cast looked like they they were having so much fun” Audience Member
“It was a special experience for my daughter to be involved with and she enjoyed acting alongside some adults too” Parent
Flour Babies is a riotous comedy … when the annual school science fair comes round, Mr Cartwright’s class don’t get to work on the Soap Factory, the Maggot Farm or the Exploding Custard Tins.
To their disgust, this class of underachievers is assigned to spend three torturous weeks taking care of their own “babies” in the form of bags of flour, but one boy Simon makes some amazing discoveries about himself, while coming to terms with his long-absent father.
We were delighted to welcome April Nash to EYT to direct this hilarious play.
“The Director really challenged the cast with fast paced movement and scene changes and they were slick” Audience Member
“This was our daughter’s first experience on stage and the Echo team were so suportive and encouraging” Parent
Bad Girls is an energetic, fast-moving dramatisation of the book by Jacqueline Wilson, which was directed for us by Charley Nicol.
Mandy has been picked on at school for as long as she can remember. That’s why she is delighted when cheeky, daring, full-of-fun Tanya picks her as a friend. Mum isn’t happy – she thinks Tanya is a ‘bad girl’ and a bad influence. Mandy is sure Tanya can only get her out of trouble, not into it … but can she?
The play is a story of friendships and loyalty against the odds.
