SCHOOL OF ROCK

PERFORMED AT THE MADDERMARKET THEATRE, NORWICH

8TH – 11TH JUNE 2023

Our second production of 2023 was School of Rock
Based on the Paramount movie written by Mike White
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Book by Julian Fellowes, Lyrics by Glenn
Slater

Rock got no reason, rock got no rhyme… you better get me to school on time! School of Rock is a two-hour, two-act musical based on the hit movie.

The show follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There, he turns a class of straight–A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school’s headmistress finding out?
School of Rock was our first production with adults in the cast and we had a total of 31 adults and youth members in the cast.  Our School of Rock band played live on stage and bought the house down with their finale rock number!
Our technically most challenging production to date, School of Rock broke box ofice records for us, marked our first show featuring actor-musicans, and our first show with a mixed adult youth cast.  We like new challenges!

An amateur/youth group production by arrangement with The Really Useful Group Ltd.

Reviews

Led by the charismatic talents of Chris Davidson in the role of Dewey Finn, this was a hybrid cast which blended the gifts possessed by the next generation of young talent with the stagecraft and experience of the adult performers in their ranks. And what a stunner of a show it turned out to be.

The young cast showcase true talent …it’s hard to mention individuals, so well done and applause to everyone….Christopher Davidson didn’t hold back as lead character Dewey. He encouraged the rest of the cast to do the same and helped give the production the grown up edge it requires.

Lloyd Webber’s eclectic, guitar-heavy score is a revelation … and the talent on the stage last night was astounding. But then, that’s something I’ve come to expect from Echo Youth…the standing ovation at the end was instant and richly deserved.
